Decadence, thy name is The Little Polka Dot!
Sweet-toothed gastronomes are in for a treat, thanks to The Little Polka Dot, which is soon bringing an international array of pastries, bread, and desserts on their platter!
Speaking about why she decided to bring global confectionery indulgences like macarons, eclairs, profiteroles, and entremets on the map of Thane, ace baker and pastry chef Shikha Rai, who is also the founder and owner of The Little Polka Dot, says: “In my journey as a professional baker, I have seen the epicurean landscape of Thane change magically! Desserts and confectioneries that used to be considered foreign, or unique, started appealing to foodies as they began traveling the world. The Little Polka Dot has been serving up various cakes, pastries, and bread for the last four years, but lately, I started getting increasing requests to recreate choux, bagels, pastries, tarts, etc. I have always believed in giving our clients what they want, and thus started the journey towards expanding our menu to an international level.”
Shikha started off with baking as a hobby and gained enough confidence and expertise to make brownies, tea-time cakes, party cakes, and so on. 2004 proved to be a landmark year as Shikha’s husband shifted abroad for work, and the family started traveling on holidays to various countries in Europe then, the The Middle East. Savouring authentic croissants and mille feuilles in Paris, stollens and Black Forest cake in Germany, chocolates in Switzerland and Belgium started tempting Shikha with the possibility of recreating the same back home. She continued to bake for friends & family with ingredients brought from abroad, thus making the taste and texture of her products very different. Her kids & friends kept exhorting Shikha to go commercial with her talent. Domestic responsibilities, coupled with not knowing where and how to start, postponed the decision to 2018. However, in January of 2018, things came together all of a sudden, and The Little Polka Dot was formally launched!
In the last four years, Shikha has catered to 300+ premium clients, most of who are now regulars with her. A firm believer in giving her clients only the best, Shikha only uses pure chocolate and dairy creams, thus making The Little Polka Dot immensely popular for their superlative quality. Not the one to rest on her laurels, Shikha has now taken the next step ahead by bringing
global confectioneries to the Indian shores. She has completed the 6 Month Diploma in Baking & Pastry from the School For European Pastry India and level 3 diploma from City & Guilds of London and now launching an array of pastries, desserts, and bread from an international selection. So, get your dessert bowls and plates ready. The Little Polka Dot is soon coming to tantalize your tastebuds with authentically crafted and lovingly served sweet treats!
